Motorcycle Accident
Some Of The Most Common Injuries People Experience In Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcycle accidents can be particularly bad. Many times they are fatal. Riders simply have no way of remaining on their bike and can be thrown should they strike something. The number of accidents has steadily risen since 1997. Many crashes involving motorcycles will show common injuries among riders.
Head injuries are very common, and can be extremely severe if the rider does not wear a helmet. Helmets are able to help stave off head trauma, but if the crash is very bad, then sometimes helmets can shatter or a person’s head can strike the inside of the helmet in such a way that the brain hits against the skull. Fractures, hematomas, and brain trauma are all very common injuries to motorcycle riders.
Fractures are also likely during a motorcycle accident. Limbs can sustain fractures--sometimes multiple fractures--as can joints and other areas. The most common breakage areas are shoulders and the pelvis.
Road rash is extremely common, especially when a rider is not wearing a sufficient amount of protective clothing. Road rash occurs when soft tissue scrapes across the ground at a high speed. Road rash can occur on any part of the body that is exposed and slides over the ground. It is best prevented by leather or reinforced denim.
A high percentage of motorcycle accidents show that facial disfigurement can occur when impact occurs against the chin-bar area of a motorcycle. This is more common in riders that do not wear helmets. Helmets can help soften the blow during an accident, whereas the lack of a helmet can lead to serious injuries, either when the face meets the chin-bar or other objects or the ground during a crash.
All these injuries and more are possible during a motorcycle accident. It is important to always gear up properly when riding a motorcycle and obey the rules of the road, as well as mind conditions that make the road more dangerous.
